Built for the next century of learning and research, this 33,000 sf, four-story building houses interactive life sciences research laboratories, faculty offices, and collaboration spaces as the keystone of STEM education at Roanoke College. This new complex will transform the academic culture on campus through common spaces, programs and events that are relevant to the entire campus community. Key fields of study supported by the new Center include neurosciences, material and nano science, biochemistry, molecular biology, and big data visualization. The project began with abatement and demolition of the Massengill Auditorium, and a complex initial phase of enabling heavy infrastructure work to manage wet and dry utility distribution among the existing buildings to make way for the new center. Construction commenced immediately adjured to the Trexler and Life Sciences buildings without losing any classroom time to the new construction. Completion planned for the fall 2026 academic year.
